Perfection is the enemy of profitability.
Too often we pursue a standard that appeals to ourselves, but is unseen for the customer.
I see this all the time.
We roster too many staff on, because service must be “excellent”.
We spend too much on ingredients, as only the best will do.
We take too long to prepare our food and beverages, as it needs to be picture perfect.
But every single effort beyond the perception of the customer, beyond what the customer has paid for or expects, is a WASTE of money.
Because we so often strive to appeal to our own, internal standard. We define our ego and sense of worth to “perfect”
We take 10 steps, when a short cut of 6 is all that is needed.
There are no rewards for going beyond. No accolades. Not even a lot of profit.
We aim to play the perfect game, when winning ugly is all that we need to do.
And winning ugly leaves a bigger profit in your bank account.
